This paper aims to analyse verb initial sentences in Hittite, with regard to a range of
factors that might trigger the fronting of the verb. Indeed, these sentences appear to be occasionally
attested in many ancient Indo-European languages and the fronting of the verb seems to have
different functions. The analysis is based on a selected heterogeneous corpus of the Hittite
language, i.e. a corpus comprising multiple literary genres. Finally, the examples from this language
are analysed using the following linguistic parameters: morphosyntax, lexicon-semantics, rhetorical
stylistics, and pragmatics. The purpose of this research is to present new interpretations of reasons
why the verb might be fronted in Hittite.
